Document Verification

To apply to any university/college you will need to provide a long list of documents else your application could get turned down. Document Verification Nowadays getting admission into your dream university abroad has become easier. The same cannot be said about the documents required to study abroad. Every university can differ in the set of credentials you need to send with your application.
The best way to keep track of what you will need is to keep a study abroad documents checklist. Against each university of choice, list the documents that you need to keep ready to go along with your application. In case your application does not have the relevant documents, you run the risk of not getting admission and having to wait for the next student intake season. Our student counsellors at IEC Abroad provide this service as part of the free student admission process. It makes sense then to let them advise you on what you will need for specific universities. Here are a general set of documents that you will need for your university application.

Checklist of documents

Passport

You will need this to apply for your visa once you get your admission offer. Make sure that your passport is ready and that it is valid for at least one year more than your duration of the study. Make copies or scan it to your smartphone so that you have it
with you whenever needed.

Competitive exam scores

This should be top of your list of documents required to study abroad. Each university may have different standard test scores that you will have to submit along with your application. This could be TOEFL or IELTS for Nepali students for English proficiency. Some universities might ask for GMAT or GRE scores.

Statement of Purpose

A well-written SOP can be a deciding factor for a university to give you an offer letter. This written document gives an insight into who you are, why you have chosen the university and the course and what your career path will be once you finish the course. Also known as the graduate school essay and is usually 1-2 pages long.

Resume

A resume will have your personal details, contact details, your education levels and institutions and grades as well as internships, projects and work experience. This can be an important document used for screening student applications. YOu can attach your work experience documents if you have any.

Letters of recommendation

Don’t leave this to the last minute, put it right up on your study abroad documents checklist. Universities attach great importance to LOR or reference letters. You can ask for one from the faculty of the educational institution you have got your degree from. You can also ask your employers for one. The recommender will write a reference based on your characteristics, capabilities and ability to carry out responsibilities assigned at work or university.

Latest passport-sized photograph

Wrong sized passport photo dimensions can land you in trouble both for your application as well as for visa. Double-check that you have the right passport dimensions for the university you are applying to.

Recheck

We can’t say this often enough. Recheck that you have all you need before beginning the application process. Many a time you realise too late that you don’t have all the documents and the time taken to get them might cut it too fine.

Academic documents or transcripts

Keep ready your academic documents – school certificates, mark sheets, transfer certificates, and other diplomas or certificates that qualify you for the programme you have applied for. It also helps to keep copies (hard and digital) of them for distribution in other contexts.
